Get to Know Middlemarch Half Day Tour
Otago is rich in history. It was an area that was settled early as the Gold Rush brought thousands to the area in search of the pot at the end of the rainbow. Many didn’t find it, but some gold is still in them there hills, as the commercial goldmine at Macraes shows.
But the real gold is the people – warm hearts, hard workers, and people who love the land. You will meet some of them on our tours and get to know their story as well as enjoy local produce and food.

This is a half day tour at a time that suits you. It takes 3.5 hours at a cost of $65 per person.
Strath Taieri Explorer Full Day Tours
Full day tours (lasting six hours) going either north to Kyeburn or south to Lawrence will introduce you to the special area that is Strath Taieri and Otago. These tours cost $150 per person. Use of fishing gear and gold pans is included. Food and refreshments are at your own cost.
Lawrence Full Day Tour
Pan for gold at Gabriel’s Gully as part of the full day Lawrence tour – and yes there is still gold to be found! Visit the Chinese gold miners' camp or take a short historic guided walking tour of the township, which was the site of New Zealand’s first gold rush. Lawrence offers a wide range of attractions from heritage buildings, the Tuapeka goldfields Museum, and the Bellview Wetlands. For the adventurous, try the Beaumont jet boat and enjoy local wildlife in and near the Clutha River.
Kyeburn Full Day Tour
Travel north from Middlemarch to Kyeburn and soak up the history of the region. As its name implies, Kyeburn Diggings, like the many settlements in the Maniototo, is derived from the early gold miners' pursuit of gold the 1860s, followed by coal mining in Kyeburn's case. This tour includes Naseby, where you can try your hand at curling, and the art-deco town of Ranfurly. This is a six-hour trip at a cost of $150 per person. Food and refreshments at your own cost.
